New WEMPEC Faculty Member: Dr. Jinia Roy We are extremely pleased to welcome Jinia Roy, the first of two new faculty members joining WEMPEC this summer, on campus. Dr. Roy joined WEMPEC at the beginning of July and will expand our profile in Power Electronics. Her primary research interests are WBG based modular power electronics converter for pulsed power applications including military, medical, and other industrial processes; and power converters for grid integration of renewable resources. Broadly she is also interested in working on power converters with applications in electric transportation including traction drives, DC-DC converters, fast chargers, and green hydrogen. She received her PhD from Arizona State University in 2017, advised by Prof. Raja Ayyanar, and joins us after stations as a Postdoctoral Fellow at NREL and as a Research Engineer with GE Research Center. She will start to grow her research group and teach ECE 412 – Power Electronic Circuits in the Fall semester.Please join us in wishing Jinia an excellent start at UW-Madison and WEMPEC! |

Retirement of Kathy Young As announced at the 2023 WEMPEC Annual Review, Kathy Young is retiring this month. Kathy has played a huge part in shaping the WEMPEC community with her above-and-beyond welcoming stance towards the WEMPEC students, her exceptional skills as an event host towards WEMPEC members during the Annual Reviews and Friday seminars, and her overall enthusiastic nature. She has never run out of motivation and ideas to improve the WEMPEC experience for both students and faculty as well as members.We wish Kathy all the very best for this next chapter, hopefully being able to spend more time on her great hobby of traveling the world! |
WEMPEC’s New Administrative Director, Kelly Camp Kelly joins WEMPEC with several years of experience working at UW-Madison. For the past eight years she was at the School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Medicine, in the role of Administrative Program Specialist for the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. Kelly will be the “voice” behind the admin@wempec.wisc.edu email, and main point of contact for all membership administrative activity. In addition, her duties will consist of, in part, managing programs and/or programmatic activities. Initiating, developing, and implementing operational services that support a defined project, program, work unit, or function to advance program goals and objectives.Welcome Kelly to the Team! |

New Financial Specialist: Mira Kwiecien We are happy to welcome Mira to WEMPEC as a Financial Specialist. Mira’s previous experience is in banking, where she was an Assistant Team Supervisor at Waukesha State Bank in Waukesha, WI. Her first day with ECE/WEMPEC was July 17th. Mira will be dividing her time between ECE and WEMPEC. In her role, she will be responsible for updating and maintaining cashflow, processing of payments to vendors, purchases, sales for events and other activities, providing oversight and processing of WEMPEC students, including conference registration, travel and other expenses; among other responsibilities.Welcome Mira to the Team! |
