Trystar’s team members are our most important asset, we are in search of a Principal Engineer – Power Electronics Design to join our innovative engineering team at our Merrimack, NH, site. As a key contributor, you will leverage your extensive experience in complex power stage topology design to drive the development of cutting-edge power conversion systems. Your expertise across multiple disciplines will be critical in collaborating on new system design architectures and leading projects from concept to validation through all phases of the design cycle. In this role you will get to:
- Define, develop, and create power, analog, and digital circuitry architectures for high power, high voltage, high frequency switching, multi-phase, bidirectional AC power inverters and interleaved DC-DC converters utilizing Si and SiC IGBT, MOSFET, and SCR devices.
- Design power stages at voltages up to 1500 VDC / 600 VAC, with power ranging from 10-800 kW.
- Design power circuits and all supporting circuity such as fan control and monitoring, active and passive pre-charge/bleed, input/output power filtering, DC links, snubbers, dampers, clamps, relay drives, etc.
- Collaborate with hardware designers, mentor junior hardware designers, and other engineers engaged in the design, validation, and commercialization of power electronics.
- Generate and manage comprehensive technical documentation.
- Lead design reviews and technical discussions, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
- Develop and manage detailed project scope and schedules.
Job Requirements:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering (BSEE) with 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in power conversion and controls or a Master of Science in Electrical / Electronics Engineering (MSEE) with 5+ years of relevant industrial experience.
- Extensive experience in analog design engineering, focusing on power and instrumentation systems, as well as communications, fault monitoring, and protection schemes.
- Experience defining software and programable logic requirements for modulation and control of power stages and systems.
- Experience defining magnetic components, filter topologies, and EMC/EMI compliance approaches.
- Ability to specify test strategies and methods for verification, production, and regulatory compliance prior to product design.
- Experience collaborating with PCB designers and mechanical engineers (MEs) on PCB floorplan, mechanical packaging, thermal and electrical interfaces, and cooling approaches.
- Highly motivated, fast learner with exceptional attention to detail that thrives in a team environment.
- Document control, schematic capture, simulation, and modeling experience in a variety of tools such as LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink, Python, SolidWorks, PLM, etc.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Magnetic designs for transformers, inductors, and common-mode chokes using ferrite, powdered metal, and amorphous tape materials with round, helical, foil, and litz windings.
- Digital circuits including DSPs, FPGA/PLDs, real time clocks, and communications (RS-485, CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C).
- NFPA 70E certification.
- Position may require up to 20% travel within North America.
