Trystar’s team members are our most important asset, we are in search of a Principal Engineer- Power Electronics Control to join our innovative engineering team at our Merrimack, NH site. As a key contributor, you will leverage your extensive experience in complex microcontroller and FPGA-based architectures and embedded real-time software controls to drive the development of cutting-edge power and instrumentation systems. Your expertise across multiple disciplines will be critical in collaborating on new system design architectures and leading projects from concept to validation through all phases of the design cycle. In this role you will get to:

  • Develop and implement C-based, embedded, real-time control software for various electrical power systems, including motor drives, DC/DC converters, AC inverters, energy storage systems, vehicle traction drives, turbine generators, wind generators, and SCR firing controllers.
  • Support IEEE 1547 and UL 1741 grid support inverter certification testing for multiple products.
  • Perform algorithm analysis, loop tuning, and system simulation using MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Conduct in-system testing and debugging of closed-loop control systems using software emulators and embedded software-based frequency response analysis tools.
  • Mentor junior firmware and software developers.
  • Develop and manage detailed project schedules.

 

Job Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in power conditioning software controls.
  • Extensive experience in digital design engineering, focusing on power and instrumentation systems.
  • Highly motivated, fast learner with exceptional attention to detail that thrives in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with electrical hardware for power conversion and instrumentation.
  • Ability to read and understand mixed-signal electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of space vector modulation and Clarke/Park transformations.
  • Proficiency in C-based, embedded, real-time control software development.
  • Proficiency with Verilog-based logic design.
  • Strong background in microcontroller and FPGA-based architectures.
  • Experience with IEEE 1547 and UL 1741 grid support inverter certification testing.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Simulink, and other relevant simulation tools.
  • Strong mentoring abilities to guide and develop junior engineers.
  • Excellent documentation skills for creating product requirements, functional specifications, and user manuals.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with the C2000 family of real-time microcontrollers from Texas Instruments.
  • Proficiency in creating reusable driver libraries for microcontroller device peripherals.
  • NFPA 70E certification.
  • Ability to travel within North America up to 20%.
