Job Description Summary

The Power Electronics Control Engineer role is considered a lead role within the business and expected to be an individual with deep technical capability within power electronic circuits with a strong emphasis on applications. The successful candidate is expected to take ownership of power distribution product system specifications, software specifications, and emulator-based test setup to meet detailed customer requirements.

At GE Aviation in Dayton, OH the EPISCenter is the headquarters for all of Aviation Power Engineering. At this facility you have an opportunity to put your engineering training and skills to use. Our Engineers are focused and challenged on developing new technologies and delivering state of the art products such as Hybrid Electric aircraft, the latest military platforms, and SiC technology to name a few. Plus, if you like hands-on work, there is also a 155,000 sq ft lab that includes 6 high power test cells totaling 15 MW, an EMI chamber, an electronics lab, a rapid build prototype lab, and a real time simulator lab with all the latest equipment.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design and develop power electronic circuits and components for Aviation industry products such as power distribution products
  • Maintain ownership of engineering artifacts associated with specific power distribution products including system specifications, control specifications, and control drawings.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with required external and internal interfaces to ensure that customer requirements are understood and being achieved
  • Understand and utilize the Hardware In the Loop (HIL) platform to facilitate the product testing

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or from an accredited university or college
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in an engineering position
  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions and this posting is only for U.S. Citizens.  GE will require proof of status.

Desired Characteristics

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university with a focus in electrical engineering field and a minimum of 3 years of experience in power electronics/power conversion
  • Domain knowledge with semiconductor devices and their application to large power converters
  • Proficiency with MATLAB / Simulink / PLECS or equivalent simulation tools
  • Design experience with power supplies or frequency converters
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
