This role provides an opportunity to perform research, propose innovative solutions, develop simulations, implement algorithms in hardware, and validate them in both laboratory and field environments. Novel ideas could be eligible for patenting and product integration.
This role is located in Fort Wayne, IN. Housing assistance can be provided for those not local to the Fort Wayne area.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and analyze new control techniques, providing concept solutions with justifications.
- Develop system simulations and model-based designs for applications in motor control and other control systems
- Tune the algorithms to achieve desired performance metrics.
- Implement control algorithms on embedded platforms like MCU & FPGAs.
- Conduct validation and field testing of developed control strategies.
- Document research findings and designs
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Experience with developing and testing embedded C/C++ application on MCU platforms.
- Strong understanding of motor control techniques (V/F, FOC, DTC).
- Strong understanding of control systems and algorithm development.
- Experience with system modeling and simulation tools.
- Knowledge of feedback observer design (e.g., Kalman Filters, Sliding Mode Observers).
- Proficiency in designing controllers like: PID, Model Predictive Control (MPC), Adaptive Control, Fuzzy Logic, Sliding Mode, AI-based techniques.
- Hands-on experience with model-based design (MBD) using MATLAB/Simulink.
- Proficiency in simulation and validation of control algorithms.
- Understanding of digital signal processing (DSP) techniques.
- Exposure to machine learning-based control strategies would be a plus.
- Knowledge of online motor parameter identification methods would be a plus.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Enrolled in BS or MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on motor control, power electronics & control systems (required).
