Job Description

The Systems Engineering team of Electric Power Systems division is currently in search of a Dynamics and Controls Engineering Intern with a background in electrical machines, power electronics, or control systems. Our System Dynamics and Control Engineering Team consists of specialists in physics-based modeling, simulation, and control system design for Electric Power Systems. Engaging in various projects across the product lifecycle, we prioritize the advancement of cutting-edge technologies in aircraft electrification and electric propulsion.

What You Will Do:

  • Perform physics-based analysis of next generation aircraft electric power systems, including electric and hybrid propulsion.
  • Support development of closed loop control algorithms of power generation and distribution equipment to meet system power quality requirements.
  • Integrate and model rotating machinery, power electronics, circuits and software models to develop optimized system designs
  • Gain experience in power system lab during testing and debugging
  • Support customer driven trade studies and power system architectural exploration as needed.

What You Will Learn:

  • Gain experience in power generation system physical modeling and analysis in synchronous reference frame
  • Develop Matlab/Simulink simulation and scripting skills
  • Develop understanding of aircraft electrical system power quality requirements
  • Gain understanding of aircraft electrical system control and protections

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Pursuing Master’s degree in modeling, simulation, and analysis of power electronics and/or electric machines
  • MATLAB/Simulink experience
  • Relevant coursework in the fields of control theory, power electronics, or electrical machines
  • Controls analysis experience: performance, stability, signal processing
  • Experience using classical and modern control theory
  • Student must be 3+ years in pursuing a Bachelor’s

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD – 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
