BETA Technologies – Power Electronics Engineer – Electronics Team

South Burlington, VT


Beta is seeking an expert power electronics engineer to help drive the conceptualization, design, and prototyping of certification-ready aircraft power architectures including high-voltage to low-voltage DC-DC converters, low-voltage circuit board-level digital and analog power rails, charging circuitry, battery management systems and more.


How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Electronic hardware design (power supplies, inverter hardware, charging systems, battery management, etc) and integration with aircraft systems in compliance with industry standards.
  • Design according to system/aircraft level requirements and follow certification process and safety assessments.
  • Interface with suppliers to evaluate and integrate novel technologies into aircraft designs
  • Support electronics needs for other teams


Minimum Qualifications we are seeking (your Knowledge, Experience, and Abilities):

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably for aircraft systems
  • Mastery of switching power supply designs including buck, boost, buck-boost, push-pull, flyback, etc
  • Mastery of transformer and inductor design for small switching power supplies including core selection
  • Experience designing and analyzing printed circuit board level power architecture
  • Experience designing aircraft/vehicle-level power architecture
  • Experience testing for EMI and EMC, experience defining EWIS grounding and shielding requirements
  • Experience with AC/DC bus calculations including fault current analysis for high-voltage DC systems
  • Experience with circuit simulation software (LTSpice Preferred), especially related to power electronics stability, control system response, component tolerance considerations
  • Slack, Google G -Suite including drive, mail, calendar, docs, sheets, etc,
  • Strong communication skills, be a proactive team player, comfortable defining own tasks


Above and Beyond Qualifications that will distinguish you (preferred qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering
  • >5 years industry experience in electrical design for Part 23 or Part 25 aircraft
  • Experience with standards for aircraft design and certification of aircraft energy storage systems, electrical wiring and interconnection systems, etc. ARP4754, DO-178, DO-254
  • Safety activity experience: FMEA, FHA, PSSA, CMA, SSA
  • Experience with Polarion or other systems requirements management software
  • Experience with inverter hardware design and/or battery management systems
  • Experience with eVTOL, powered-lift, or other special class aircraft
  • Experience with Python or other data processing languages
